About Me

RPM Coaching is owned and managed by Rob Mortlock, a London and Bedfordshire based British Cycling Level 3 coach and Cytech mechanic.

I have been a professional cycling coach for over a decade. Not simply by having my own coaching business, but by being employed full time as a coach by leading organisations.

For four years I worked for British Cycling in the Go-Ride department, gaining valuable experience whilst increasing my knowledge and qualifications. Here, I was privileged to have been involved in coaching many young riders who have since become Great Britain Cycling Team names. Being invited overseas to accompany the Olympic Development programme team during the UCI Junior Nations Cup was both thrilling and a valuable insight into professional cycle sport.

During this time I was able to complete further education in both coaching and the wider area of sport and leisure; studying for a degree whilst in full time employment and also coaching individual riders to success at local and national level events.

Moving on from British Cycling in 2014, I was assigned the role of Lead Coach at London’s new Olympic legacy venue, now known as Lee Valley VeloPark, managing the coaching team. This opportunity provided some unique experiences, working with Olympic legends, sporting and TV celebrities.

As a youngster I enjoyed BMX freestyle and occasional road cycling but was never particularly competitive (I had been a competitive short distance swimmer at school age). Discovering mountain biking, BMX racing and track cycling as an adult encouraged me to look into coaching cycling as a career. I have raced regional and national level track events, being more suited to the explosive sprint based events. I certainly did my best times and learned a lot about how to train with the help of a coach.

Becoming a coach myself, I found helping others to achieve their goals even more satisfying than pinning a number on, and I enjoy continually learning about developments in sport and equipment. Adding cycling specific mechanic's qualifications to my underpinning engineering knowledge means I am able to offer customers comprehensive services for both bike and rider.
